Russian Orthodox Christmas 2025. From the end of december to january people performed different rituals, asking pagan gods for a fruitful year, and held a winter festival called koliada. Orthodox christmas day for the year 2025 is celebrated/ observed on sunday, january 7th.

After the adoption of christianity, such rituals mixed with the new customs into unique christmas traditions that russians still adhere to. Some eastern orthodox churches will be observing christmas on sunday.
